I started with a 35mm film cameras to take on holiday in the 1990's but it was after buying a digital camera for a trip to Iceland in 2006 to photograph the landscapes that I really became hooked. Landscape photography lead me to a series of trips across Europe and Africa before I headed back to Iceland to do a fashion shoot experience both on and under a glacier! The entire crew but especially the models showed how much perseverance you sometimes need to get the shot, especially as the November temperatures dropped and the weather closed in.
Since that initial photoshoot I now do both indoor and outdoor location shoots using the natural environment for creative portraiture and fashion and lean towards a personal surreal art style in various locations across Europe and recently the Canary Islands, with Lanzarote providing another volcanic landscape for a touch of drama.
Product photo shoots are really enjoyable especially for dynamic or dramatic products with exceptional designs, colours or where there spectacular engineering which always has a sense of beauty to it when capturing for photographs.
For portrait or surreal fashion shoots for an individual, it is important to make creative images that hint of a background story or capture a moment which embraces emotion and the enjoyment which is essential for both client and photographer to get the best out of the time spent together. I seek to combine the ambience of a location with the best portable and studio lighting system to get the best out of each location and the rich textures we find there. Working with Make Up Artists, stylists for clothing and hair will add powerful elements that can enhance not just the final photograph but the entire photo shoot experience and these are highly recommended.
